Raceday LIVE Preview
All The Glory is back in handicap action following her run in the Grade 2 Warfield Mares' Hurdle at Ascot two weeks ago.
That race was always going to prove to be difficult, going up against Willie Mullins' Kargese who was well fancied for the Mares' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival as well as the winner of the race, Take No Chances, who is a very progressive sort in herself. She stood up to the task well, and was certainly in the race on merit following her two wins that came prior to that, but it became apparent in the closing stages of the race that they were going to be too quick for her, as they sped away with two flights left to take.

All The Glory has also part qualified for the Go North Lady Buttons Series Final at Musselburgh in March, and in order to fully qualify for that race, she needs to run two more times in the north of the UK, which was another reason to target a good quality race at Musselburgh this weekend.
It isn't the first time our mare has been north of the border in her career, having scored there in November of last year for her previous owners. Benjamin Macey, who rides her again today, brought her into the race beautifully, having travelled strongly in the midfield for much of the running, before taking the lead after being shaken up turning for home. She was pushed out to the finish and won cosily ahead of the second placed Sunday Soldier.
She followed up that success with her Coral Racing Club debut on New Year's Day, with an emphatic win at Southwell. Benjamin Macey rode her again that day and the pair continued to prove that they work well together, as he once again allowed her to run towards the rear of the 7 strong field, before sending her to the front with two to jump and extending her lead out to four lengths at the winning post.

Benjamin Macey rode out his 10lb claim with that run on New Year's Day, but is still able to claim 7 today, and will look to claim his third straight victory when riding All The Glory, as Jonjo O'Neill Jnr was tasked with riding her at Ascot last time out. She goes off top weight in today's field too, so that seven pounds will be incredibly valuable, especially given the strong relationship they've formed recently.

Remarkably, the worst of the stormy weather that's passed through the UK recently hasn't affected the track at Musselburgh, with the ground team there needing to water the surface to maintain the 'Good To Soft' going, although the showers that have been forecast on the day could make the going a little bit tougher.
Raceday message from trainer A J O'Neill
All The Glory heads back up to Scotland and a place she knows well and loved the last run around here but that was over 2m4f. We're back down in trip here and obviously the main aim is to qualify but she will appreciate the pace in this and with the 7lbs off her back it wont be so bad.
Afadil who won this race last season and is without a win since, now but back to a mark well below what he won this off before. If back to himself will be going close but he will need to improve a good bit I think to be doing that.
Balhambar who I think should be favourite as he ran good races in defeat this season and one who I think will go very close here.
Florida Dreams has threatened to be a good horse, winning at Hexham early this season but then highly tried since and I can forgive him those efforts, definitely one for the placings as back down to his 2m trip.
Fingers crossed for a good performance and good luck!

All The Glory drops back to handicap company following a try in a Grade 2 at Ascot last time when she failed to show her form after racing freely. Given she’d been racing over further it was a surprise to see her overdoing things through the race at Ascot but she should relax better here in what looks likely to be a well-run race. There has to be a chance she’s better over further but she does have form at the track and despite a rise in the weights for her Southwell win doesn’t look completely exposed off her mark, though both her wins came in Mares only races and this looks a deeper handicap than those she won.
Afadil hasn’t produced his best in four starts this term but he didn’t run to badly in a couple of competitive Ascot handicaps prior to getting bogged down on testing ground last time. The return to a sounder this surface, and perhaps more importantly to this track, where he’s unbeaten in two starts, could spark a revival off a falling mark (now 4lbs lower than when winning this race last year). He looks the most interesting runner in the race.
Maghlaak has been well placed over hurdles but couldn’t land the hat trick last time, when the ground probably got too testing and though his form lacks a bit of substance, the level of ability he showed on the Flat suggests he could still be on a decent mark over hurdles now he returns to better ground in cheek pieces for the first time.
Plenty more come into the race in good form though without seeming to have loads in hand, but Balhambar might yet have more to offer and definitely makes the shortlist alongside Norman Fletcher, who was pulled up last time but had excuses and may do better again.
Trainer and Jockey Statistics
Jonjo & A J O'Neill have been in relatively quiet form as of late, with only two winners from their 33 runners in the last two weeks. The father and son duo have trained 57 winners with a further 73 finishing in the places from a total off 406 runners in the current season. Musselburgh isn't a track the pair frequently send horses to, with it being 340 miles away from their training base in the Cotswolds, and their only runner there so far this year was All The Glory when she won there in November last year.
Benjamin Macey hasn't had many rides lately, only picking up 7 since the start of the year, the majority of which have been from the Jonjo & A J O'Neill stable. He has finished second twice on his last two rides, with one of those coming at Catterick yesterday. All 6 of his winners have come from Jackdaws Castle, and two of those have been onboard All The Glory, and a further one was on another Coral Racing Club horse, Hey Day Baby.
