Raceday LIVE Preview
Aspire To Glory lands at Chelmsford this evening after a short break, following his hard-fought second place finish at Southwell two weeks ago, on what was already his seventh start of the year.
It's been a really pleasing past few months for Aspire To Glory, having won twice and finishing second a further two times for trainer Alice Haynes. He started the year with one of those second place finishes, before a few low-key runs, and then bounced right back to form just over a month later when scoring in comfortable fashion at Wolverhampton over the 1m½f trip. Another slightly disappointing run came off the back of that, but after a short break he scored for the second time in the space of a month, when winning in game style at Newcastle after dropping back down in trip to 7f.

His remarkable turnaround since January has been reflected in his official rating over the course of the year. Aspire To Glory made his first start off a mark of 43, which was incidentally his lowest ever rating, and since then he's risen up the rankings to be rated 11lbs higher at 54, which is the highest mark he's raced off of since his second handicap start just under 18 months ago.

A field of 10 opponents are set to line up against Aspire To Glory this evening, with five former course and distance winners set to go to post. On top of that, there are two former winners over different distances at Chelmsford, as well as two maidens.
Fat Gladiator and Ocean Odyssey arrive tonight having won last time out, with the former carrying top weight, and the latter running off a mark that's effectively a pound lower due to a 5lb penalty for his victory last week. Nubough, Lilkian, Heerathetrack and our very own Aspire To Glory are the other runners in the race who have been in the winners enclosure within their last three runs, making the race a very interesting contest.
Raceday message from trainer Alice Haynes
"Hi guys, Aspire To Glory is set to run over seven furlongs at Chelmsford tonight.
He's drawn a bit wide in stall 10 of 11, but there is some pace on the inside which should give us something to track. We'll aim to get a decent position to follow the pace and then make our challenge.
He's in good form and can hopefully run well again."
Chris Dixon, Racing TV analyst, provides an exclusive preview of tonight's Chelmsford contest
Aspire To Glory ran an excellent race when just touched off by a well-handicapped horse coming back to form at Southwell and is holding his own form very well of late. Having spent much of the winter in a slightly lower level of handicap his recent form shows his effectiveness in this grade and he still looks capable of winning another race or two in the short term. Having not managed to produce his very best form in previous visits to this track, there’s a slight doubt as to whether this is the ideal place for him, though that notion can be countered by the argument that his runs at Chelmsford have been of a similar level to what he was producing at other tracks around the same time as those runs and I believe 7f at Chelmsford to be a suitable test for him. Given his recent form, this run should give a better idea as to whether or not that’s the case, though with a wide draw and quite a few other prominent racers/front runners in the field, this race does have the potential to work out poorly for him from a tactical standpoint.
It should play out better for Ocean Odyssey who looks the horse to beat after making a winning stable debut for Gary & Josh Moore at Southwell last week and carries the mandatory 5lbs penalty for his 6 length win. That means he’s officially 6lbs well-in under the penalty and given the manner of that win last time and his back form, he’s likely to be tough to beat. Windsor Pass and Heerathetrack are both in form and each has a better draw than Aspire To Glory so they are likely to run well while recent course and distance winner Fat Gladiator is another with a chance.
Trainer and Jockey Statistics
Alice Haynes' only winner in the last fortnight came courtesy of Ziggy's Ariel at Ripon towards the end of April, her seventh winner of the year, and since then she's had two runner up finishers to her name. She has a modest strike-rate of 11% at Chelmsford, with 21 winners at the Essex track, of which one has come this season.
Kieran O'Neill arrives in good form with two wins in the last fortnight, including a 12/1 winner for Jennie Candlish at Chester's May Meeting yesterday, which was his only ride of the day. He has a strike-rate of just under 10% at Chelmsford, with 62 wins at the course, with two of those winners coming from 22 rides this year.
