Raceday LIVE Preview

Aspire To Glory began this year in the same way he ended the last, with a solid victory over seven furlongs. Trainer Alice Haynes kept him over the same trip for his second run of the year, but unfortunately he couldn't make up the required ground to finish any closer than three lengths behind the eventual winner after a difficult start where he broke slowly from the stalls.

Today sees our gelding step back up to a mile for just the second time in his career, with his first outing over this distance ending in an disappointing eighth place finish in a nine runner race at Kempton back in November.

That being said, since that day he's done nothing but improve and is yet to finish out of the top three in his last three contests. In Alice's latest update, she said "I’d be very hopeful he’s just going to keep improving, and expect him to rate higher than the grade he’s currently in." so we're looking forward to seeing what he can produce over the extended trip later today.

Raceday message from Alice Haynes

"Best of luck with Aspire To Glory heading up in trip at Kempton this evening.

He was unable to do himself justice here last time, missing the break badly over a furlong shorter, meaning he was always on the back foot from that point. He's fresh and well, and we've thought he was ready for the step back up to a mile for a while, so we're very hopeful of a good run before he has a bit of a break before the turf returns.

The race doesn't seem to have one lurking in the way Volkan Bey was last time, though there has been support for Con Te Partiro of Richard Spencer's up in trip in first time headgear and Eccentric ran a lot better than his earlier form most recently. I think despite this we should be very competitive."

Prize money and Owners for the Day

Today's Class 6 contest is worth £6,000 in total, with the winner set to scoop £3,140 for their lucky owners.

2nd place: £1,474 | 3rd place: £736 | 4th place: £368 | 5th place: £184

As part of the Owner for the Day competitions we launch here on the Coral Racing Club website when one of the club's horses has been entered in a race, each of the 10 lucky winners who get the chance to attend as an owner will get to take home an equal 10% split of any prize money won.

Trainer and jockey form

Alice Haynes has had a relatively quiet start to 2023, having turned out seven winners since the beginning of last month, with her last one coming here at Kempton over six furlongs at the end of January.

Tommie Jakes has been in great form so far this year with seven wins from twenty eight rides. The young apprentice landed a double for Linda Perrett ten days ago at Newcastle and his two week strike rate sits at an impressive 28%.

Racing Post | VERDICT

A weak contest and provided he doesn't blow his chance at the start, ASPIRE TO GLORY looks capable of getting back to winning ways.

Today's opposition

  • Top weight Eccentric runs for Jamie and Saffie Osborne tonight, after finishing second by a neck over a mile at Lingfield when last seen under Oisin Murphy.

  • The market suggests that Con Te Partiro will run a big race. After opening at 11/2 last night, he's seen support to take him to the top of the market and Hollie Doyle rides him for Richard Spencer this evening.

  • Tejesueno is another rival that's seen significant market support this morning, moving from 18/1 to 8/1. She finished third in her penultimate run over six furlongs and followed that up with a solid fourth at Lingfield over seven furlongs last time out. In-form jockey Tom Marquand takes the reins today as he looks to add to his 23% two week strike-rate.
