Raceday LIVE Preview
It's another relatively quick turnaround for Aspire To Glory who last ran on Boxing Day as he makes the trip to Southwell to kick off his four-year-old campaign only 15 days into the year.
He had a consistent campaign throughout the second half of 2024, running at least once in every month from August to December, with three efforts coming in the space of seven weeks across the final couple of months. The first of those three runs was at Chelmsford over seven furlongs and was quite promising, as Aspire To Glory came home in a respectable fourth place, four lengths behind the winner, No Saint, who was raised 7lbs for that impressive victory.
His two runs in December were less pleasing, as he came home in 8th place over a mile at Chelmsford, before showing some improvement next time out where he finished 9th, but much closer to the winner of the race. Despite that effort, he has still slid down the official ratings, with his mark dropping three pounds over the course of those three runs to 43.

Interestingly, his run on Sunday which didn't go ahead, was the exact raceday last year that Aspire To Glory won for the second time in his career, over the same distance, in a corresponding race for three-year-olds. Tommie Jakes was onboard our gelding that day, claiming 7lbs, and guided him into the race beautifully, despite being drawn in a wider than ideal stall. He made some great headway inside the final two furlongs and kept on well to win the race.

Aspire To Glory has been handed a handy draw in stall number seven of twelve, and being surrounded by other horses who may not want to make the running, could play into his hands. The experienced Kieran O'Neill retains the ride, who knows our son of Cotai Glory well, so hopefully the pair can get a good position early on and be in with a fighting chance as they turn for home as we go in search of our second winner of the year.
Raceday update from trainer Alice Haynes
'Obviously Aspire To Glory was due to run on Sunday but Lingfield was called off, and this looks a weaker race so hopefully it has worked in our favour.
Monsieur Fantaisie was second last time, but not many others are in form. As mentioned previously, Kieran is planning to be positive on Aspire To Glory which he should be able to do from stall seven. Hopefully the change in tactics and weaker opposition can lead to an improved performance.'

Aspire to Glory has his sights reset to Southwell this afternoon following the abandonment of Lingfield on Sunday and unlike at Lingfield, he has been handed a decent looking draw in stall 7. All the headgear that’s been on in recent starts has been removed ands he drops into a Classified race, but he meets horses on worse terms in a race of this nature than he would a handicap. There is also a distinct lack of regular front runners in the line up which looks a negative for a horse who can be keen and is usually held up, though there may be an argument for a switch in tactics to a more prominent early pitch similar to his rest recent run at Chelmsford in November when he sat prominent in the early stages and came home in fourth place. Overall it’s difficult to be confident about his chances but if he did revive to the level of form he was showing last winter he would have a chance at this level.
Monsieur Fantasie can be hampered by slow starts but he’s got his act together on that front of late and assuming he break here looks the one to beat. Peter Niven’s charge won twice last winter and has looked back in form on recent starts. A close third at Wolverhampton on Boxing Day in a race that has been posted by the runner-up winning since, he was only just beaten over this course and distance 11 days ago and if in similar form would have a strong chance of going one better.
Mr Slicker was in behind him at Wolverhampton and has a few lengths to find but isn’t without an each-way chance from stall 2, while Kodebreaker drops in class for the first time and could take advantage given you don’t have to go back far to find him showing a level of form that would give him a strong chance.
