Joe Tizzard Saturday Preview: I think she has a cracking chance

17 Feb 2024
Coral Racing Ambassador, Joe Tizzard, gives an exclusive preview of his runners this Saturday, including Ilovethenightlife in the Pertemps Hurdle Series Qualifier at Haydock.

15:07 Wincanton – Off To A Flyer

This horse has taken a bit of time to get the hang of chasing, and I’ve put cheekpieces on him here as I think they will sharpen him up a little bit. He schooled really well earlier in the week, and Daryl [Jacob] can pop him out and be prominent with him, and hopefully get him enjoying it.

He is a spring horse, and appreciates better ground, so this going would be a concern, but I think the handicapper has given him a chance, so when we finally get some drier ground, I can see him getting his head in front again before too long.

15:42 Wincanton – Ticking Tom Bomb

Ticking Tom Bomb ran two nice races at Wincanton and Cheltenham to start this season, but he just wasn’t right when he came back after his Boxing Day run, so we’ve given him time to get over that. He’s another whose handicap mark looks workable, and I think he needs this step up in trip, so I hope he can get back on track and if so, would have an each-way chance.

15:50 Haydock – Ilovethenightlife

Brendan [Powell] heads to Haydock to ride this mare in the Pertemps qualifier. She absolutely loved the step up to three miles at Plumpton last time, winning in good style, and I don’t think she’ll mind heavy ground here, she should go through it ok.

Knowing she gets three miles opens up more options for us, and if she did run well and went up enough in the weights, she could get into the Pertemps Final at Cheltenham, but this is a valuable race in its own right, with an additional £10,000 bonus on offer. With only ten runners, it’s a prize I think she has a cracking chance of going for.

16:17 Wincanton – No Hubs No Hoobs

No Hubs No Hoobs has run well around here in the past, but I’ve put the blinkers on him here as he can run a bit lazily. He found Plumpton a bit too sharp last time, and while he doesn’t win very often, he tends to run consistently so hopefully will do again here.
