13:09 Wincanton – Killer Kane
Two runners for us at our local track, starting with Killer Kane in the conditional jockeys’ chase. We’re dropping him back to 2 and a half miles here, he has won over 3 miles but he’s also won over shorter trips, so he has the pace for this. We’ve put the blinkers on him as he’s just maybe getting a bit cute with age, so they should sharpen him up I hope.
Fred [Gingell] would have ridden, but he’s at Aintree, so we’ve booked Callum Pritchard, a young lad who’s caught my eye with a couple of winners recently and will do a good job. It’s a £20,000 race with only five runners so I’m looking forward running him.
15:30 Wincanton – The Changing Man
The Badger Beer has been the target for The Changing Man for a while, although I was a bit nervous about the quicker ground, as there just hasn’t been any rain of note across the country for a while now. However, I walked the course on Wednesday and it felt beautiful, genuine good ground, so we’re happy to run.
He gets in here off a lovely weight, and is in cracking form at home, his last piece of work in particular was really encouraging and pleased us all. This is the right race for him, he’s one of the favourites, and I’d love to see him take this on route to a possible run in the Coral Gold Cup.
