Aspire To Glory entered at Southwell on Sunday – latest update from Alice Haynes

14 Aug 2023
Aspire To Glory
Aspire To Glory has today been entered in the Nursery Handicap (15:10) at Southwell on Sunday.

Following a run on very testing ground at Ffos Las a fortnight ago, Aspire To Glory was subsequently dropped two pounds from a handicap mark of 59 to 57.

Trainer Alice Haynes had entered him in a race at Kempton a week later, but the drop in mark hadn't been applied yet and there was a feeling that the run would maybe come a little bit too soon for our gelding, which she explained in her previous update.

Read the latest from Alice below following today's entry:

We’ve put Aspire To Glory in a race at Southwell on Sunday, a six furlongs nursery handicap for horses rated 0 – 60, off at 15:10. It’s on their tapeta all-weather surface, so there won’t be any ground concerns or watching the weather forecast this week!

As we said in our last update, he was actually dropped a couple of pounds for his Ffos Las run, so would run off his correct mark of 57 on Sunday if we go there. It looks a good opportunity on paper, but we’ll take a closer look at the entries – there were 28 entered on Monday – and see how the field might look before making the final decision on Friday.

He’s in good form at home, and is ready to run, so hopefully it will be all systems go for Southwell, and Kieran [O’Neill] would ride, but we’ll keep you updated later in the week.
