Aspire To Glory: Ayr race review, interview with Hollie Doyle and what next for the club's three-year-old
Aspire To Glory made his sixth start of the turf season on Monday at Ayr in the Class 6 Handicap (15:35) over a mile.
The club's three-year-old gelding was well supported throughout the morning, and with conditions looking to be in his favour with Hollie Doyle set to ride for the first time for the club, we were hopeful of a big performance.
As the race got underway, Aspire To Glory broke well from stall 7, but looked to be caught out by the early speed set by Odette's Beau for trainer Michael Dods, leaving him and Hollie about ten lengths off the pace as they went through the first couple of furlongs.
After they past the three furlong pole, Hollie started to ask Aspire To Glory for more with a strong drive under hands and feels, to which he initially responded well to. The pair made their move up the middle of the track, but as they entered the final furlong and a half, they were unable to claw back any of the deficit between them and the leading pack, including the eventual winner Keep Me Stable for Linda Perratt, who won decisively by four lengths under Tommie Jakes, with Aspire To Glory back in fifth.
Check out what trainer Alice Haynes had to say about Aspire To Glory's performance below:
"Aspire To Glory has come out of his race well. Hollie [Doyle] felt he was just a bit out of his comfort zone with them going such an end to end gallop.
I think we’ll be trying him around a bend on the all-weather next time - plenty of his best form has come on that surface and it could just be a case of going back to what we know.
Again, he is a quirky individual who has more than enough ability to be winning races such as the one on Monday, but with his quirks I think it’s now sensible to find conditions where he’s done his best in the past."

What next for Aspire To Glory?
As Alice mentioned, we know Aspire To Glory has shown his best form on the all-weather tracks, and following his run on Monday which he has come out in good order, the team at Machell Place Stables have already picked out a potential race at Wolverhampton on Tuesday 20th August for his next start.
Stay tuned for our next Owner for the Day competition for your chance to be Aspire To Glory's owner at his next race.
