Cast No Shadow set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering injury on the gallops
'He had a fracture of a hind cannon bone and that required surgery. He has had the operation, and it has been successful. The surgeon inserted three screws into his bone to stabilise the fracture. It was done using CT guidance, which is a relatively new technology.
The surgeon was very pleased with the repair. He remains in hospital, but he is comfortable. All being well, he will be discharged later this week.
In terms of recovery, he will need six weeks in his box when he returns. Once we are happy with him, he will have six weeks of walking and then hopefully, six weeks of cantering. With the timeframe in mind, we are looking at an August return for him at the earliest.'
Disappointingly, that puts an end to Cast No Shadow's campaign, following his five runs during the all-weather season, which included a solid third place finish over his favourite course and distance, the five furlong trip at Newcastle.

Cast No Shadow in the Parade Ring at Newcastle on Friday 31st January 2025
He started off his season with a pipe-opener at Wolverhampton, after having had around three months off following his June victory at Newcastle. He was then given the difficult task of lining up in a Class 3 contest back at Newcastle, where he finished just over five lengths behind the winner in 10th position, in what was comfortably his most difficult race to date.
Cast No Shadow was dropped back down in company following that run, and remained in Class 5 contests for what turned out to be his final three runs of the season, amongst which he managed a third place finish behind experienced campaigners, Above and Water Of Leith.
Check back soon for updates on Cast No Shadow's recovery at Manor House, and to find out what his target will be come August when he is expected to return to the track.
