Jockey Kevin Stott shares his thoughts on Cast No Shadow's latest effort at Newcastle | Raceday Review
Our four-year-old gelding once again broke from the stalls in very alert fashion, showing lots of early speed after the gates opened to bound to the head of the field. He continued to get an easy ride from the front of the field and travelled nicely under jockey Kevin Stott, but as the pair hit the two furlong marker, their rivals began to swamp them from either side.
As they entered the final furlong, Cast No Shadow couldn't maintain his efforts and began to drop through the field. With the seven runners fast approaching the finish line in the closing stages, it was King's Crown for the Michael Dods team who stayed on best down the outside to take the spoils, with Cast No Shadow back in seventh place, however still only beaten by 4½ lengths.

It wasn't necessarily a surprise to see a result like this given the length of time that Cast No Shadow spent off the track throughout this year, but he certainly showed improvement from his last contest and is clearly starting to return to full fitness.
The team at Manor House will likely wait to see how the handicapper reacts following the race before thinking about Cast No Shadow's next destination, but they're hopeful that if they can find a suitable 0-65 contest that he should be able to put in a more competitive performance and go close to returning to the winners' enclosure.
