Diamond Days just misses out on top three finish with late rally at Lingfield on chase debut | Raceday Highlights
After a promising first season on the course, Diamond Days had an excellent summer and impressed on his return at Fontwell earlier in the month. He jumped with enthusiasm and travelled strongly throughout, which led to trainer Joe Tizzard making the call to give him the green light to make his chase debut sooner rather than later. He had been schooling over fences at home in the build up to his first run of the new campaign and with race fitness now on his side, the Tizzard team sent Diamond Days to Lingfield with plenty of optimism.
Tuesday's race at Lingfield was a small field of five runners, with just one of Diamond Days' rivals having had experience over fences previously. It was a nervy first fence for our son of Diamond Boy as he appeared to misjudge it slightly, but he soon recovered under jockey Freddie Gingell and went on to put in some glorious leaps over the next few fences. He continued to travel with plenty of enthusiasm through the early stages, however, following a couple of other novicey jumps, he did appear to hit a bit of flat spot as the field approached the fifth fence from home.
Freddie began to ask Diamond Days for more after the next jump, and to our delight he responded and soon passed the struggling Misteroddsocks. As they came downhill, Diamond Days continued to rally, however, as they jumped the second to last fence there was still a few lengths to find. Following a big leap at the last, Diamond Days' stamina really began to kick in and he flew home up the nearside railing.
Unfortunately, despite his courageous late effort, it was only enough for him to come home in fourth place dnd two lengths behind the winner, Getaway King. Overall, there were plenty of positives to take from Diamond Days' first experience over fences and there's no doubt he will have learned plenty to take into his next run.

Diamond Days' ten lucky Owners for the Day each took home a share of £311 in prize money for his fourth place finish, which took his total prize money up to £2,174. Those members were also offered the opportunity to attend Lingfield with Owners badges, granting them access to the parade ring, the opportunity to meet the Tizzard team amongst other raceday benefits.
