After her twelve length victory over an extended two miles and five furlong trip at Market Rasen last time out, confidence was high in the build up to Hey Day Baby's appearance at Newton Abbot at the beginning of the week.
As the race got underway, it was clear to see none of the field really wanted to lead from the front, and that unfortunately meant that Hey Day Baby took it upon herself to bound out in front with her usual exuberance. This probably wasn't the plan, as we know how well she performed on her previous run when she was able to sit in behind the leaders before finishing with a flurry. However, she jumped well throughout, and was seemingly travelling fine until the eleventh fence (out of sixteen) after which she was headed and began to weaken quickly. Following that it was clear to see she had little left to give, so Ben Macey rightly decided to pull Hey Day Baby up before the penultimate fence.
The team at Jackdaws Castle gave Hey Day Baby a tracheal wash on Tuesday morning to check to see whether or not there was any signs to show she had bled again, and unfortunately, there was some potential evidence uncovered during the procedure, so it's possible this could've been a contributing factor as to why she dropped out of contention in the latter stages of Monday's race.
A J has confirmed they will look to run an additional test to get confirmation, but for now as they await the results she'll be given some time to rest and recover.
