16:50 Grand Annual – 'He is in the best form he has been in for some time'

15 Mar 2023
It's day two of the 2023 Cheltenham Festival and it'll be all eyes on the 16:50 Grand Annual for the Tizzard team as they look forward to ELIXIR DE NUTZ hopefully putting his best foot forward following his Grade 2 second-place finish at Newbury in the Game Spirit Chase in February.

He ran in the same race at last years festival under Jonjo O'Neill Jnr, but was pulled up before two out, and this time round he has regular jockey Brendan Powell in the saddle who has ridden him in all four of his runs this season, which included an impressive win at Wincanton on his penultimate start.

This is what Joe Tizzard had to say on his chances:

"With the rain falling earlier in the week, we made the fairly easy decision to run Elixir De Nutz in the Grand Annual, rather than in Thursday’s Plate. It will be a fast run two miles contest, which should really suit him.

He is in the best form he has been for some time, and I was very happy with the way he ran at Newbury in graded company last time. Dropping him back into handicap company – albeit a fiercely competitive one – was always the plan, and I am excited by his prospects."
