Phoenix Of Dreams progressing really well and ready to run again soon – latest update from Sean Quinn
He’s been training really well, and I think the key is he’s been progressing all the time, which is exactly what you want to see. I’m really looking forward to kicking on with him now and getting him back on the racecourse, so it’s just about finding the right race for him.
We have given him an entry in a novice race at Doncaster this Saturday, but as you’d expect with £40,000 on offer for a novice contest, it looks like it’s going to be an extremely hot race. There are 25 entered in the race, including Ralph Beckett’s King’s Gamble who finished third in the Group 2 Gimcrack last season. King’s Gamble is rated 102, and while I do think Phoenix Of Dreams would be able to run with plenty of credit, if he finishes close to a horse rated 102, then he’s going to end up with a stiff looking opening mark to start life off in handicaps.
So, taking that into account, I think we’ll give Doncaster a miss and head to Wetherby on 11th June instead. There’s a 7f novice race there that I think will be a good opportunity for him, so hopefully he can get his win at the third time of asking.
