Joe Tizzard blog: Seven runners at Wincanton

TRACK AND TRIP WILL REALLY SUIT ELIXIR DE NUTZ

Wincanton 12.20 – I Shut That D’Or & Pedley Wood

It’s a busy day for us at our local track, and we run two in each of the first two races as we’re looking to make up a bit of lost time after the cold spell before Christmas, and need to get runs into these horses.  In terms of jockey bookings, Brendan [Powell] would have the choice, and in both cases I do think he’s on the better of the two, but Tom Cannon comes to the yard regularly and we’re always happy to put him on one of ours.

I Shut That D’Or is having his third run over hurdles and is learning all the time, we’re stepping him up in trip here as well so that will teach us more, but he’ll get his mark after this race and I’ve no doubt he’ll be competitive in handicaps.

Pedley Wood won an English point-to-point and had the one run over hurdles for us, but we’ve missed a couple of races with him since, where he’s been balloted out, so we’re looking to get this run into him.  He’ll improve for the run, but he’s definitely capable of winning races.

Wincanton 12.55 – King Of Lombardy & Talimar Pearl

We run another pair in the second. King Of Lombardy ran well first time up, but then disappointed back at Exeter last month.  His Bumper run was solid as well though, so I’ll forgive him that last run, and I think he can go well here.

We were chuffed with Talimar Pearl’s first run, at Taunton, and while he is probably behind King Of Lombardy at the moment, there’s no much between them, and when he gets a mark I’m sure he’ll be winning races.

Wincanton 1.30 – Elixir De Nutz

Elixir De Nutz was unlucky to just get touched off at Doncaster last time but I've put cheekpieces on him here as I wasn't sure he quite went through with his effort at Doncaster, although that might just be me overthinking it. This is a tricky little race but the track and trip will suit and he should have every chance.

Wincanton 2.05- Kauto The King

Kauto The King is a good ground horse really, but he's fit and he's well and loves it around Wincanton.  We could do with it staying dry for 24 hours, but it will be safe ground for him, and the handicapper might drop him a few pounds.

Wincanton 2.40 – Seymour Promise

We were going to go point-to-pointing with Seymour Promise last season, but he picked up a tendon injury which has kept him off for a long while. He actually works OK at home, but he does need to start showing it on the track now.

Sandown 3.00 – Elegant Escape

Elegant Escape is a proper yard favourite, who has given us so much enjoyment over the years. There is a really good pot on offer for this veterans series final, he seems in really good form at home and Harry Cobden knows him really well so if he can get him into a nice rhythm early on I'm sure he will run a nice race. You never quite know with these older horses how they're going to run, but if he has a going day he is more than capable still.

Wincanton 3.50 – No Hubs No Hoobs

No Hubs No Hoobs won nicely here on Boxing Day, but this is a completely different type of race as he is off top weight.  That said, Fred [Gingell] got a lovely tune out of him that day, and despite the rise in the weights, there's no reason why they can't be competitive again here.
