Lady Mendoza claims bronze at Uttoxeter – Rebecca Menzies' post-race update
Lady Mendoza stayed on in strong fashion to claim 3rd place at Uttoxeter on Saturday evening and Rebecca Menzies has provided an update on the mare following her excellent performance.
Even though she ran in snatches throughout the race, it was great to see Lady Mendoza battle well to get up for third at Uttoxeter on Saturday night. She ran a bit of a strange race but I think a lot of it was in her head, and she stayed on well close home to snatch a place. We’ll probably try some blinkers or a visor next time with her as Brian felt she was a bit lazy throughout the race, so some headgear might just sharpen her up and get her to concentrate on the job. As Brian said, there’s definitely races to be won with her we just need to find the right opportunity for her now.
There’s a 0-100 mares race at Cartmel on Friday 30th June which looks suitable for her, so we’ll give her an entry there and see how things pan out. She’s come out of the race absolutely fine, but just in case that race comes a bit soon for her, there’s another 0-100 mares race at Southwell on Tuesday 18th July so we’ll have a look at that too. The good thing is there seems to be plenty of options for her.
I’ve always felt she’d be better over a fence, so if we get some nice ground at home to school her on then we’ll look at popping her over a few fences and see how she gets on. She obviously won a point-to-point over in Ireland, so I’m not concerned about her jumping, but it would just be good to have a look at her technique and see how she goes. Providing that goes well, it opens up plenty more opportunities for her with those 3m 3f races round places like Sedgefield so it’s definitely something we’ll look to explore soon.
I’ll keep everybody updated along the way, but she still looks in great form at home, so hopefully it won’t be too long till we see her back on the track.
