Lady Mendoza could be set for a spin over hurdles next week – latest from Rebecca Menzies

Lady Mendoza
We really wanted to go straight over fences with Lady Mendoza this season, but it’s just been so wet up here we haven’t been able to school her over fences. Our schooling gallop is pretty much under water, and Chris Grant’s yard which we often use is pretty much the same, so it’s been a frustrating time.

She’s in really good form at home and seems to have her zest back, so I’m quite keen on getting a run into her. I know Brian Hughes got off her at Uttoxeter in the summer and said he thought she was a bit slow and lazy, but I think he’d definitely change his mind on her if he sat on her today.

There’s a race at Market Rasen over hurdles next Thursday that we have entered her in, and it might just be a nice place to start her before going chasing. The trip is just short of three miles which should be perfect, and you usually get decent ground at Market Rasen, so providing it isn’t absolutely bottomless there, then I think that’s where we’ll go with her.

I’ll keep everybody updated if plans change, but I couldn’t be any happier with her at home, so I’m really looking forward to getting her back on the track.
