"We can look forward to a productive winter with her" – latest Lady Mendoza update

25 Oct 2023
Lady Mendoza

Lady Mendoza has been in great form at home of late, and she’s really surprised me with how forward she’s been to be honest.

I thought she’d be a good bit behind the others as she was late coming in, but I don’t think she has been, and she seems to have caught up really well. She’s moving well on the gallops and that break out in the field has seemingly freshened her up which is exactly what we wanted, so I’m really looking forward to kicking on with her now.

Unfortunately like many yards up and down the country, the majority of our facilities are flooded at the moment, so we haven’t been able to do much with her the last couple of days. I’m sure it will dry out as we get towards the end of the week, so we’ll look to school her over a few fences and see how she gets on from there.

The plan is still very much to go straight over fences with Lady Mendoza, and having won a point-to-point in Ireland, you’d hope it would be the making of her. We’ll probably look to start her off over an intermediate trip with the view to progressing her up to three miles when the time is right. All being well, she should be ready to run mid-November, so we’ll keep an eye out for any suitable opportunities for her over the next few weeks.

I’ll keep everybody updated with her progress, but she’s fresh and well, and hopefully we can look forward to a productive winter with her.
