'Brian was delighted with her' – Rebecca Menzies reflects on Lady Mendoza's comeback run
It was great to get Lady Mendoza back on the track last week at Newcastle and I was absolutely thrilled with how she ran.
Having been off the track for three months, there’s every chance she’ll have needed that outing just to tighten her up, but she kept on well in the closing stages to eventually finish 5th.
She’s come out the race in fantastic order at home, so we’ve given her a couple of days rest and will now start to build her back up towards peak fitness ahead of her next run.
Brian Hughes was delighted with her after the race and felt this could be a real turning point for her. He thought she’d fare even better over a longer trip, so we’ve been going through the programme book and looking at races over three miles that would be suitable for her.
We have three races on our radar for her, one at Perth on Sunday 11th June, another at Southwell on Monday 12th June, then there’s a Mares’ race at Aintree on Friday 16th June. We’ll have a look at the entries nearer the time but on paper they all look excellent opportunities, so we’ll keep our options open and hopefully find the race that gives her the best chance of getting her head in front.
As I say she’s come out of the race in great order, so we’ll keep her ticking over at home, and I’ll keep you all updated with our plans for her next outing nearer to the time.
