WATCH: West End Boy heads out for a canter at Venn Farm

West End Boy
We've caught up on the ten days that we lost with West End Boy following his small set back, and he's really been pleasing me in his recent work, he’s coming along nicely. We gave him plenty of time to get over that knock, but he’s been back in full work since New Year, and has done everything we’ve asked of him since, meaning that exciting first run is not too far away now.

The plan is to find a nice race for him towards the end of this month or in early February. We’ll start him off over two miles – I’m sure in time he’ll get further – but we’ll start him over the minimum trip, and then get the feedback from the jockey. That’s an advantage of having a stable jockey like Brendan [Powell], they get to know the horses, and can give that advice on what trip and type of ground might suit a particular horse.
