Raceday LIVE Preview
Lady Mendoza is set to make her third start of the year this afternoon, and her second over this course and distance, having finished third here in May on her first start of the season. In her one run since then, a race over two and a half miles at Perth ten days ago, our mare finished fourth of twelve. She made most of the running that day, but the step down in trip caught up with her towards the end of the race, as she was well held and one paced when the front runners began turning for home.
She came out of the race well, as you'd expect given the team at Howe Hills have turned her around so quickly, and is obviously operating at full fitness given her strong performances in our seven-year-old's last two contests. Cartmel's card has come at an opportune time given those factors, as not only has Lady Mendoza performed well over course and distance recently, but she's also set to get good conditions, which we know she likes, on the day at the Lake District track.
The conditions are currently Soft with no adverse weather expected to hit the track before race time, meaning that conditions should improve before race time.

And last but by no means least, each winner will get to take home an equal 10% split of any prize money won by Lady Mendoza.
Today's Class 4 contest is worth £7,850 in total, with the winner set to scoop £4,145.58 for their lucky owners.

Trainer and jockey form
Rebecca Menzies has been in relatively quiet form recently, returning no winners on either the flat, or over jumps in the last two weeks. She has however had seven horses placed, including six second place finishes in that time period, one of which was a 25/1 shot here at Cartmel on Saturday. The Durham-based trainer's record at Cartmel is relatively solid, returning seven winners at the course from 83 runners, two of which have come this season from 17 entries.
Nathan Moscrop has been similarly quiet on the racecourse in the last fortnight, only picking up three rides in that time period, including Lady Mendoza's run at Perth ten days ago. Nathan is a jockey who is frequently used by trainer Rebecca Menzies, and he has ridden Lady Mendoza six times out of her eight starts to date, so it's great to have him onboard again today.
