WATCH: We've officially hit the £100,000 mark in prize money! – Check out our journey so far

10 Jan 2025

We're delighted to announce that following All The Glory's emphatic debut win for the Club on New Year's Day, we've officially hit the £100,000 mark in prize money – with 100% of it going to Coral Racing Club members.

It's been 792 days since the Coral Racing Club opened it's doors as the UK's only free racehorse ownership club. After starting with just four horses and four trainers back in November 2022, we've since grown to an exciting stable of 13 horses and 9 trainers, and had over 120 memorable racedays across 43 different racecourses up and down the UK.

Now, before we dive in to take a look back at our journey so far, here's a quick reminder on how members are able to win the chance to be an 'Owner for the Day' when we have a runner and what their prize includes.

When a Coral Racing Club horse has a race target in the near future or is officially entered for a race, we launch an 'Owner for the Day' competition on the website. After the competition closes, a select amount of entrants are picked at random as winners and will receive the following as part of the prize package:

  • Free racecourse entry
  • Access to the Owners & Trainers enclosure
  • Access to the Parade Ring before the race
  • The chance to meet the horse, trainer(s) and jockey
  • Take home an equal share of any prize money won – 100% of the prize money won is split amongst the owners

Now, let's rewind the clock all the way back to November 2022...

Our Journey

The Club's first ever runner came just a week after we launched and it was almost the perfect start as Lady Mendoza finished 2nd at Newcastle for the Rebecca Menzies team in her first competitive start over hurdles, earning her 10 lucky owners for the day £1,900 in prize money to share and take home.

Not long after our debut runner we headed to Doncaster with our then stable star Annie Mc for the Listed Yorkshire Silver Vase Mares' Chase, in which she also came home in second place, but due to the high level and quality of the race, she still scooped an amazing £13,000 in prize money for her owners for the day.

Fast forward to June 2023 and it was our Paul & Oliver Cole-trained two-year-old Rockstar Icon who got us on the edge of our seats after putting in a hugely improved performance on just his second start for the Club as he finished 2nd in a competition Class 2 Maiden at Haydock and landing over £6,000 for his 10 owners for the day.

As we headed into the 23/24 National Hunt season, we were still in search of our first ever winner despite hitting the crossbar on several occasions, and as we approached the end of October it was over to our promising five-year-old novice hurdler for Joe Tizzard with West End Boy. After three runs in novice company West End Boy was given an opening handicap mark of 99 and on his first start in a handicap contest he bolted up by 10 lengths at Wincanton with Joe's nephew Freddie Gingell in the saddle.

Following that breakthrough victory, it didn't take long for us to secure our first winner on the flat as just a few weeks later Aspire To Glory landed the spoils at Kempton on the all-weather for trainer Alice Haynes. He went on to win next time out too, only this time at Lingfield, and a lot was owed to the talented young apprentice jockey Tommie Jakes as he gave our son of Cotai Glory a peach of a ride on both occasions.

As we continued through the year we had Cast No Shadow claim Newcastle as his favourite track with two wins over 5f for the Hugo Palmer team, whilst Phoenix Of Dreams made his long-awaited debut for John & Sean Quinn and then soon followed it up with a hat-trick of runner up finishes before finally getting his head in front at Redcar in October.

Prior to that, at the beginning of August we had one of the most memorable days to date for the Club as Rockstar Icon featured at Glorious Goodwood. Despite the result not going his way, the entire day was still a fantastic occasion with over 50 Coral Racing Club members and guests getting the chance to see him in action from the exclusive rooftop terrace at Goodwood which was available only to the lucky winners of the hospitality competition we ran earlier in the year.

Over the past few months we had our 100th runner as Diamond Days made his debut for the Tizzard team, and then shortly after Cave Article became our 11th winner as our promising staying chaser made flourished as he stepped up to 3m2f on just his second start over fences for Coral Welsh and Scottish Grand National winning trainer, Christian Williams.

Following that win we crept ever closer to the £100,000 in prize money mark, and as we headed into the new year, it was all eyes on our newest stablemate All The Glory who was only launched into the Club just before Christmas with trainers Jonjo & A J O'Neill.

The eight-year-old mare came into the Club off the back of a comfortable win at Musselburgh, and as a result there was plenty of hope and optimism for just how much she could progress over the next few months. She did have an entry at Newbury for Coral Challow Hurdle Day, but the team at Jackdaws Castle opted for a Challenger Mares' Hurdle Series Qualifier at Southwell on New Year's Day. That decision proved to be the right one because despite some concerns about how she'd perform on the soft ground, she made it two wins from two with a superb display under the steering of Benjamin Macey.

That victory officially took the Club over the £100,000 mark in prize money, with All The Glory landing £9,350 for her 10 lucky owners for the day to share, and she also took our record to 12 winners from 121 runners.

It's probably fair to say it took us longer than we'd have hoped to get off the mark with our first winner, but we can certainly say that we've made amends for that with all of the success throughout 2024 and now kicking off the new year in the best way possible. We're very excited for what's to come this year and hopefully we can bring many more Coral Racing Club members plenty of memorable racedays over the next 12 months.

Remember to keep an eye out for any upcoming 'Owner for the Day' competitions for your chance to head to the races as an owner, and be sure to always check out the Coral Racing Club website each time we have a runner as we'll always bring you a Raceday LIVE Preview page including all the latest updates ahead of the action.
